SUSTAINABILITY
At G R Wrights, sustainability is at the heart of our flour milling and ingredient blending practices. We are dedicated to reducing our environmental impact, investing in renewable energy, and working towards net-zero emissions by 2050. Our initiatives include the increased use of solar power, harvesting rainwater, and eliminating landfill waste through recycling and recovery.
We support sustainable farming to protect soil health and biodiversity while optimising our supply chain to minimise emissions. Through external benchmarking and continuous improvement, we ensure transparency and accountability. By embedding sustainability into every aspect of our operations, we are committed to nourishing people while protecting the planet for future generations.
Here are some of the things we are doing
Net Zero by 2050 – Setting clear CO₂ reduction targets in line with government goals.
Carbon Footprint Tracking – Conducting annual measurements to assess and reduce emissions.
Energy-Efficient Facilities – Investing £47 million in a state-of-the-art, energy-efficient flour mill and packing facility in Harlow, Essex.
Renewable Energy – Increased use of solar power and carefully monitoring energy usage to identify efficiency improvements.
Sustainable Water Use – Harvesting rainwater to conserve resources and minimise environmental impact.
Fleet Modernisation – Regular investments in the latest Euro 6 Step E engines and beyond to lower emissions.
Waste Reduction – Preventing waste and promoting reuse, recycling, and recovery to eliminate landfill waste.
Sustainable Sourcing – Thoughtful wheat sourcing to reduce food miles and increased use of wheat from regenerative farms.
Supply Chain Optimisation – Reducing emissions, improving efficiency, and supporting fair-trade partnerships.
Sustainability Benchmarking – Engaging with external bodies like EcoVadis for transparency and continuous improvement.
